With Valentine’s Day just days away, the team at Virgin Balloon Flights is ready to help couples create some unforgettable memories.
At Virgin.com we teamed up with Virgin Balloon Flights to give one lucky couple a hot air balloon flight this Valentine’s Day. And Lauren McIver is the lucky winner!
Lauren shared her story of how her husband Joshua proposed: “We were in Rome, just by the Trevi fountain,” she said. “I tossed a coin, wishing for happiness. And then he proposed!”
Lauren added: “We love being out in the countryside and appreciating amazing views of our beautiful country. Being up high would be so romantic too, it would be much needed us time, which we rarely get these days.”
We love a good romantic proposal like this one, and we hope you both enjoy your flight.
Romance in the skies
Ballooning is one of the most romantic past-times, with lots of people choosing a flight as the perfect opportunity to propose. Virgin Balloon Flights’ passengers have shared some of their favourite ballooning stories:
Samantha bought her then-boyfriend Richard a balloon flight for his birthday. And then, to her complete surprise, he dropped to one knee after the flight and popped the question.
“I was in complete shock and actually cried all the way through it,” she says. “Poor Rich was on one knee a good while before I said yes as I was in complete shock and couldn’t speak.
“I, however, did not play it cool and chucked my full glass of bubbly down myself as I was shaking so much. It was, however, the most amazing, unforgettable moment and I’ve been on cloud nine ever since.”
Once she had calmed down from the shock, she added: “We felt the hot air balloon ride was romantic as not only is it something different but it’s a memory to share together forever. The views were beautiful and it was such a calm and peaceful experience. Once we landed we all got a lovely glass of bubbly to finish off the experience. It was magical and I would definitely recommend it to everyone.”
Another hot air balloon proposal also started with a birthday present. But this time, Matt always had the intention of proposing to Harriet while they were on their flight.
“It was a magical experience,” Harriet says. “My boyfriend booked it for my birthday last April, knowing I’d always wanted to experience a balloon ride.
“The weather was perfect, still and calm with beautiful sun rays beaming through the clouds. With excitement levels building as we helped inflate the balloon we were both grinning from ear to ear.”
And as they flew over the area where they grew up – and where they had met more than 30 years earlier – Matt tapped her on the shoulder and as she turned around he asked her to be his wife.
“It was the best and most romantic, memorable day of my life,” she adds.
If these tales of love and proposals have got you in the mood for a romantic balloon ride, take advantage of Virgin Balloon Flights’ Valentine’s Day offers and treat your loved one to an experience they’ll never forget.
