From the British Virgin Islands to New York, Dubai to Malaysia, Singapore to New Zealand, it has been quite a week. After a breathless journey around the world in less than eight days, it was great to arrive in Seattle to launch our latest adventure with Virgin Atlantic.
I’m really excited about Virgin Atlantic expanding further in the US. Seattle has long been on my list of cities to fly to. As the home to Microsoft, Amazon and of course Boeing, Seattle’s one of the fastest growing cities in the US and as a mecca for entrepreneurs and innovators, it’s a perfect fit for Virgin Atlantic. Our new daily route will add capacity for 40,000 additional seats each year, bringing total capacity on the route to 150,000 passengers annually.
As ever, we wanted to announce our arrival in unique fashion. Rising star RAYE was on board our third flight from Heathrow to Seattle to entertain our guests, and she was determined to make the most of journey. While sitting back and relaxing in the inspiring setting of our Dreamliner, RAYE decided to write a song about Seattle. Asking passengers on board everything about the Emerald City – from the renowned weather to the stunning mountains, the famous Space Needle to the Seattle Great Wheel – she crafted a beautiful song, singing about wanting ‘to see you in Seattle’. Then we streamed her performance live in the first-ever transatlantic Facebook Live broadcast from 36,000ft.
Following the news regarding Virgin America last week, it is wonderful to see our other Virgin airlines flying high – with Virgin Atlantic starting more routes this week alongside London to Seattle. Today marks the start of Virgin Atlantic’s increased flying programme from Manchester Airport, as the first of three new routes took off to San Francisco this morning. Our new Boston route launches tomorrow, with a New York JFK route following in May.
When I arrived in Seattle last night, we headed to the famous Pike Place Market, and I’ve been enjoying taking in the city ahead of our latest Business Is An Adventure event later today. I’ll be joined by some fascinating entrepreneurs to discuss people who have built brilliant businesses and inspiring careers free from restrictions.
You can watch all of the action live on Virgin Atlantic’s Facebook page at the times below, and ask the panel a question by tweeting @virginatlantic using the #HelloSeattle hashtag. We’re looking forward to it.
