One of the most wonderful things about being a public figure is that I’m often stopped by people who tell me that I have inspired them. It’s a little embarrassing, but very flattering at the same time. It is one of the highest compliments anybody can pay another person, and something I hugely appreciate.
Every day I find something or somebody new to be inspired by. Whether it is reading an interesting article, watching a fascinating documentary or having an engaging conversation, there is inspiration to be found everywhere. But inspiration doesn't always fall straight into your lap – you've got to get out there and find it.
Being able to inspire others is something we should all aspire to. There is nothing more rewarding than giving your friends, your family, your peers or your followers the encouragement to achieve wonderful things.
One of my favourite quotes from Mark Twain gets to the heart of what it means to inspire and be inspired. "Great people are those who make others feel that they, too, can become great."
This is certainly a quality I look for when hiring staff. If you can fill your team with people who give their colleagues the drive and determination to achieve more, your whole company will be uplifted.
You can always tell a great leader: they will always have more great leaders coming up behind them, inspired by their example.
Who inspires you? I’d like to hear about them in the comments below.
